The Powertrain Engineering and Manufacturing Alliance is a Michigan-based group of automotive manufacturers, suppliers, and universities.  Headquartered in Ann Arbor, MI, PEM Alliance seeks to increase the competitiveness of U.S. automaker’s through the application of digital manufacturing practices.

Digital manufacturing has many benefits, such as enhanced process visibility and process optimization.  Digital converts will be able to beat their competitor’s time-to-market and bridge the gap from product design to production.  In other words, digital manufacturing means a digital information structure that cultivates a cohesive Product Life Cycle.

The first wave of digital manufacturing is the development of digital, high-definition imaging systems for use in the production of engines and powertrain components.  This holographic imaging technology will improve accuracy and precision in engine production, allowing automakers to dramatically reduce costs while producing higher quality motors with increased performance and better fuel economy.
